How to mount, provision, and connect an ARIOT IoT gateway node to a sensor network and cloud endpoint in a field deployment.
Pre-deployment checklist
Complete this checklist before leaving the office for a field deployment:
- Confirm 4G signal strength at the target mount height is ≥ −90 dBm (test with a phone on the same carrier before ordering a site visit)
- Confirm a power source (mains socket or PoE) within 10 m of the target mount location
- Record the node serial number, IMEI, and provisioned SIM ICCID in the deployment log
- Download the node firmware package for the model being deployed
- Bring a spare SIM from the provisioned pool in case the primary SIM has a fault
- Confirm the MQTT broker endpoint, credentials, and topic prefix are ready to enter on site
Mounting the enclosure
The IP65 enclosure is designed for outdoor vertical-surface mounting.
Orientation: mount vertically with the cable glands facing downward. This ensures water drains away from the gland seals. Horizontal mounting is not supported.
Antenna position: the LTE antenna is internal. The enclosure must have a clear sky view or be oriented toward an open window. Avoid mounting:
- Behind reinforced concrete walls or metal panels
- Inside a metal cabinet or meter box
- Adjacent to large metal HVAC or conduit runs
Fasteners: use M6 stainless bolts with nylon washers. The mounting plate is pre-drilled — match the bolt pattern and torque to the figures printed on the plate label. Do not over-tighten — the ABS body will crack.
SIM and connectivity configuration
- Open the enclosure using the captive M4 screws (included hex key required).
- Insert the provisioned SIM card into the LTE slot. The card orientation is marked on the SIM holder — gold contacts facing down, notch facing left.
- Close the enclosure and secure the lid screws to the torque specified on the lid label.
- Connect power.
LED status during boot:
| Pattern | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Fast blink (4 Hz) | Searching for LTE network |
| Slow blink (1 Hz) | LTE registered, no data session |
| Steady on | Data session active |
| Double blink | Firmware boot, pre-network |
Allow 60 seconds for LTE registration. If the LED does not reach steady-on within 90 seconds, check SIM seating and signal strength.
MQTT endpoint configuration
After the unit is online, connect to the provisioning access point to configure the cloud endpoint:
- On a phone or laptop, connect to the Wi-Fi SSID:
ARIOT-NODE-<serial>using the default password printed on the label inside the lid. - Open a browser and navigate to
192.168.4.1. - Navigate to Settings → Cloud → MQTT.
- Enter:
- Broker: the endpoint provided in your provisioning portal
- Port: as specified in the provisioning portal (TLS recommended)
- Username: the credential issued with your provisioning pack
- Password: from the provisioning portal
- Topic prefix: the prefix assigned to your deployment
- Tap Save and restart. The node will reboot and connect to the broker within 30 seconds.
- Verify by checking the broker topic in the monitoring dashboard — you should see a heartbeat message within 60 seconds of restart.
